tips and watch-outs from families who've been there
sleep
- Kids 3 and under stay free; kids 4+ incur a $250/night surcharge per child to cover food.
- Rooms are well thought out, and the beds are super comfortable.
- All rooms have outdoor space and come with a golf cart to get around the property. (Don’t forget to charge it at night!)
- Thunderhead and Clingmans Cottages are most convenient to The Lodge and The Hub (activity center) and are generally best for families.
- Watchman cabins are located at the very top of the property near the Firetower restaurant. Views are beautiful, but it’s a long golf cart ride to The Valley (family pool area). Consider requesting Lexus transport or booking a room closer to The Lodge if you'll be visiting The Valley often.
- Two- to five-bedroom houses are available to rent—great for larger families or groups. Most are convenient to The Lodge. Visit the Blackberry Mountain website for more info.
- The Treehouses are adults only.
play
- The concierge team will email you to schedule activities, sitters, etc. Things book up—so get moving once they reach out.
- The Valley—home to the family pool, pond with waterslide, and tennis courts—is a 10–15 minute golf cart ride from The Lodge. It doesn't open until 10am, which feels a bit late for some early-rising kids and no meals are available (only snacks and beverages)
- The golf carts are slow — but this also means they feel safe when you're going downhill. Have a resort Lexus drive you if you're in a rush or are worried about squirmy kids).
- The Lodge infinity pool is stunning (one of our favorite pool views in the US!)— it’s for ages 16+ only, so send your kids off with your spouse, get a babysitter, or book the kids club!
- We love that the 4 and up kids club has evening sessions (5:30-9:30), in addition to morning and afternoon. You must reserve in advance and it does fill up.
- If you want a kid-free date activity, the cocktail-making class is fantastic. Or if you're worried about parenting after several drinks - the spa is lovely too.
- Go on a hike and see if you can find the troll. (Bring your own kid carrier though, as they don't provide any).
eat
- Meals are included—and you won't want to miss them! You can order as much as you want, so if several items sound good, don't be shy.
- Rooms are stocked with some snacks and beverages - and they'll provide milk. If you have other grocery needs, they are happy to pick up a Kroger order for you.
- If you want a break from sitting in a restaurant with your kids, you can order your meal to your room or eat by The Lodge pool. (Kids are allowed to have lunch on the patio adjacent to the pool.)
- Kids under 10 are asked to have dinner between 5:30 and 7. If the weather is nice, we recommend asking for an outside table at Three Sisters.
- Watch the sunset from Firetower one night—views from inside the restaurant are great, but we recommend climbing on top for an even better view.
