tips and watch-outs from families who've been there
sleep
- All rooms are free-standing cabins and have a deck - plus easy access for your kids to run around
- Bower cabin (base level) could fit a crib; does not have a bathtub
- Meadow and Ridge cottages are similar except for the view; they have bathtubs
- Ridge Suite has a large walk in closet and a sleeper sofa
- There are only a few connecting cabin options - so book early if this is important to you
play
- There's a 3 hour "Wild Explorers" kids club option for kids age 3-10. You must book in advance.
- Great for a long weekend stay - your kids might get bored after that
- This property is nice year round, but best for kids in the summer, when the pool is open
- Kids will like exploring the grounds, seeing all the flowers, and looking out for wildlife
- You can help feed the farm animals every morning, and you can pick product to take home with you
- Walking paths are stroller friendly
- There's a "natural playground" with some swings and a zipline
- Most activities are an extra charge
- Live music in the Great Porch on Friday and Saturday nights (May - October)
- Tennis and Pickleball lessons available for kids 5+
My kids loved learning about what’s being grown on the six-acre farm during a tour with Jax Hughes, one of Widlflower’s handsome “farming farmers,” who looks like he just stepped from the pages of a magazine about living your best rustic life and proved to be a natural with children. After that, he took us into the woods to plant ramps. On another day we visited the chicken coop and collected eggs that we brought to Clay to have prepared for breakfast (the extras we gave to friends later) and fed beets to some of the most attractive pigs we’d ever seen. There’s also an extensive trail network through the woods and meadows, and a natural playground with a little zipline. There isn’t a kids’ club, and there are not enough activities (at least not yet) to occupy a family through more than a couple of days on the property, but
eat
- There's only one restaurant on site (but it is excellent)
- If you want a break from formal meals with your kids, you can eat in the main porch or ask them to pack you a picnic
- Don't miss the homemade cinnamon rolls at breakfast
- Kids can join cooking classes, but must work with an adult if they're under 9
